Hidden Gems

First, O and I were watching Wishbone, and I thought, that monk looks a lot like Mo Rocca without his glasses on. Nah, I thought again, can’t be. Still, he’d sort of smirk, and I’d think well maybe… turns out Mr. Rocca was a writer and producer on the show back in the day. Neat!

Second, little ‘ole Estacada made Budget Travel Magazine’s list of the ten best places you’ve never heard of. The author is a fan of swimmin’ holes, and found Estacada to be a fine place to spend a day in the river. Too bad I never did when I lived there…

Ni Hao, Kai-Lan!

O saw this commercial today on Nick Jr. for a new show called Ni Hao, Kai-Lan, and I’m very excited about it!

This Fall, millions of preschoolers will learn that “Ni Hao” means “hello” in Mandarin as Nickelodeon Preschool introduces them to Chinese culture and language on Nick Jr.’s groundbreaking new animated series Ni Hao, Kai-lan.

On Monday, October 22, Nick Jr. will premiere the original half-hour, play-along series in which 2-5 year olds will have the opportunity to learn Mandarin words and phrases — a first for preschool television. Ni Hao, Kai-lan is Nick Jr.’s first series to feature a Chinese-American intergenerational family.

Through the eyes of a 5- year-old Chinese-American girl named Kai-lan, the series explores the colorful aspects of her upbringing and background, her relationships with her family and friends and the world around her.

Jack Black Attack

This movie looks hysterical:

Shhhh…

I meant to mention on the moo sticker post that the four paintings that I have in a rotating show through Clackamas County Arts Action Alliance have just been rotated to the Clackamas Corner Library, located behind Clackamas Town Center. If you get a chance, check them out, they should be there for the next three months before they head up to a big government building in Oregon City.

Not At All A Waste of Resources…

We got new phones a couple weeks ago, and we purchased and downloaded the Motorola Phone Tools program so we could make ringtones, transfer stuff easily to and from the phone, etc.

A couple days ago we got a box in the mail from Motorola.

That big box and that bubble pack was all used just to send the tiny little instruction booklet in the lower right corner. Crazy.

One Thing Leads to Another

Our new computer finally arrived! We now have the joy of finding all the crazy programs that were installed on the old computer and hoping they work with Windows Vista. Anyway, nice to have a stable system (knock on wood) once again.

D replaced his car stereo (which was hanging out of the busted up dashboard after an aborted theft) so now he can plug his Sansa directly into the front of the radio instead of from the cord hanging out the glove box he rigged himself. Its a pretty nice little stereo! Sony…something or other. I’d go look, but its all the way outside.

We went to Ikea last night, figuring that it might not be too crowded these days. The lot was pretty much full, and it was one hour before closing. The store was packed, but manageable, and you really do need at least a couple hours if you are looking for specific things. Its a rather genius system on Ikea’s part, since the crazy floor layout basically forces you to walk through and see every item they have for sale.

We went and saw The Gossip as part of a benefit for the Rock and Roll Camp for Girls. It was so very much made of the awesome. It was so fun, the music is so good, the crowd was so into it, and it was fun. Did I mention fun? Just so energizing, and Beth really talked a lot to the girls there that she teaches/mentors at the camp, they must have been having a blast. Plus they do a crazy fast super fantastic cover of Careless Whispers. See them, learn them, buy them, worship them.

Lucky for me, D was up in the middle of the night with insomnia and ran across a free deal with moo on boing boing - a free sticker book for the first 100 people. He secured it for me, and now I have a tiny cool sticker book of some of my paintings (or some parts of my paintings, I should say…most are cropped a bit to fit the size, but it’s still really, really cool).
